400 Hectares of Protected Alentejo Pinewood
Herdade do Pinheirinho has stayed in private hands for decades. It covers 400 hectares of protected Alentejo pinewood, an hour from Lisbon. Also, it ranks as one of Europe’s last intact coastal estates. Portugal protects this stretch of shoreline, so very few schemes ever win approval here. In fact, development will cover less than five percent of the estate. Six Senses Comporta lands here as a 70-key hotel and 58 private residences. The resort takes up 34 hectares, and the pinewood keeps the rest.
The Sand Dune Collection, by Michaelis Boyd
The residences sit across three distinct landscape settings. The Sand Dune group runs along the dunes: sculptural forms, earthy tones and direct coastal orientation. Michaelis Boyd of London and New York designed all 58 homes. Their work also includes Soho House, most notably Soho Farmhouse. Because the team sources materials locally, the houses use pine, cork, terracotta plasters and repurposed sand. Muzéo curates the art throughout.
Fluid Indoor–Outdoor Living
The design takes an inside-out approach. So the interiors open onto private terraces and gardens. Sunlit corners and courtyards then shape daily life indoors. Here that starts with a 43 m² entrance courtyard on arrival. The kitchen and living room open onto a 128 m² pool terrace. Beyond it sit the heated pool and a dune-view sun deck. The ground-floor bedroom has its own terrace as well. Upstairs, the primary bedroom opens to an 18 m² balcony.

The spa hides inside a walled garden. Its three buildings echo the dunes around them. Inside, a thermal circuit runs steam, sauna and Watsu with chromotherapy and sound healing. There are also eight treatment rooms, a cold plunge and an ice bath. Biohacking covers cryotherapy and infrared beds. Then come indoor and outdoor pools, panoramic and herbal saunas, a gym and fitness studios. An outdoor yoga deck sits alongside. The Alchemy Bar also runs hands-on natural skincare workshops. Finally, a dedicated longevity program completes the offer.
Comporta, Minutes from Everything
Cavalariça, listed in the MICHELIN Guide and set in a former horse stable in Comporta village, is 20 minutes away, and Sem Porta at Sublime Comporta a similar drive. Inside the gates sit the 18-hole golf course designed by Jorge Santana da Silva, the stables and horse-riding paddock, padel, tennis, beach tennis and pickleball courts, running and cycling tracks, an adventure park and kids’ club, restaurants and luxury retail, and direct access to 65 kilometres of Atlantic coastline, one of the longest stretches of protected beach in Europe. Melides is 10 minutes by car, Carvalhal 15, and Lisbon International Airport 1 hour 20.
